Learning Computer Programming with Intelino

By 15 December 2023January 30th, 2024No Comments

Since November 2023, our school have established a collaboration with the creator of the Intelino
SmartTrain system. We were also very pleased to have been chosen by the Colombian Ministry of
Education to show how our amazing children at Willow Brook are able to learn computer programming
without using any type of digital device. Reception, Year 1 and Year 3 classes have already been using the
Interlino SmartTrain system as part of our Digital World sequence of lessons to show how technology is all
around us.

Through play based learning, the Year 2 children were able to show our international visitors how they
apply their computational thinking skills, following a pattern of instructions to build a double loop train track
with an inter-connecting junction. Working scientifically and collaboratively in quartets, the children worked
out colour coded sequences to control the direction, speed and movement of the Intelino locomotives.

All the classes will be using the Intelino SmartTrain system throughout the Spring as every year group will
be learning about how Computer Programming connects to physical computing and real world engineering
challenges. The Year 4, 5 and 6 classes will also be expected to link their learning to Maths by leading a
whole school project for the Griffin Science Synposium week happening in early March 2024 to timetable a
train service from Sadlers Wells to Serpentine Intelino SmartTrains service.
