Intent

At Willow Brook, we believe that every child is a mathematician.

It is our intent that through engaging with a mastery approach to the teaching of mathematics, we will equip our children with efficiency and depth of understanding that allows them to use and apply their subject knowledge. This will ensure our children are confident mathematicians and develop a love and excitement for the subject that will carry them through into the next stages of their education.

From Nursery, through to year 6, children will be exposed to a curriculum that is as wide as it is deep, with teachers curating a growth mindset culture in their classrooms that translates into our pupils demonstrating the behaviours of resilient and curious learners.

Mathematics is a fundamentally creative subject, and lies at the heart of the solution to history’s most intriguing problems. An essential part of everyday life, with the need to be numerate a non-negotiable in the wider world and in most forms of employment.

At Willow Brook, we will foster and encourage a wonder and appreciation for the beauty and power that can be found in mathematical thinking. Through fluently developing the fundamentals of mathematics, our pupils will reason mathematically and solve problems with ease.
