Intent

The above are the underlying principles that make up the PE experience of a child at Willow Brook.

We strive to deliver an enjoyable and inclusive PE curriculum that inspires all pupils to be successful and lay the foundations for a healthy and active lifestyle. Through an array of activities and sports, we provide children the opportunity to become physically competent in a way that supports their health, fitness and wellbeing.

In PE, our children improve their physical competence both individually – by setting their own goals and establishing Personal Bests – and collectively, through collaboration and competition with peers. After school provision, house competitions and school sports offer children another opportunity to showcase their physical prowess and meet the required physical activity levels set out by the Chief Medical Officer.

Values based learning has parity with physical development and wellbeing in PE at Willow Brook. The development of values such as respect, perseverance, cooperation and responsibility through PE, contributes towards whole school improvement. Children who excel in this area, can share their knowledge and talent with others in an ambassadorial capacity. This may involve coaching other children to ensure that they are engaged in the learning process or, independently managing activities during playtimes or school events.

Our holistic approach is supported in PHSE and science to reinforce mental wellbeing and healthy lifestyle choices, respectively. It is our hope that this gives our pupils the tools to develop their own character, be their best self and approach challenge, now and in the future, with a healthy mindset, beyond their time at Willow Brook.
