Intent

At Willow Brook we believe, not only that all children are artists but that all children have the potential to develop into highly skilled, creative thinkers who will go on to create, invent and re-imagine their futures. We have broken down Art learning into 3 key areas; creative exploration, developing artistic techniques and artistic evaluation. To ensure our children are able to become the creators of the future, we expose them to a huge variety of diverse artists, traditional and modern, local and international, from whom they can be learn and be inspired. We teach Art through a precise, skills based curriculum where progression throughout year groups is clear to children and staff. Sketchbooks are used which enables children to keep track of their thoughts and ideas, they can practice skills and see the progress they have made. Lessons are structured around key artists where children learn to discuss and analyse theirs and others work using artistic vocabulary.
