World Book Day – Songs That Tell a Story!

The halls of Willow Brook Primary School came alive with the sound of music and the magic of reading this week as we celebrated our annual World Book Day!

This year, we decided to turn up the volume with a unique and exciting theme: Songs That Tell a Story. We wanted to show our pupils that stories truly are everywhere. While we love diving into a great book, we also spent the day exploring how stories are woven into the melodies, rhythms, and lyrics of the music we listen to every day.

It was absolutely wonderful to see so many creative costumes as our children brought their favourite musical tales to life. From classic nursery rhymes and musical theatre characters to modern pop anthems with a strong narrative, the creativity and effort on display across all year groups were spectacular.

Throughout the day, classes explored the powerful connection between reading and music. Our pupils looked closely at how songwriters use words to paint pictures, create characters, and share incredible adventures. It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate both literacy and the performing arts.

A massive thank you to all the parents, carers, and staff who helped prepare costumes and made this day such a smash hit. You helped us create a truly memorable day of learning and fun!

Let’s keep the celebration going at home—why not ask your child which story-song was their favourite today, and share some of your own favourite musical stories with them?
