Visit by Pedagogy Professionals from the University of Southern Denmark

By 30 March 2023No Comments

We were very pleased and excited to welcome Danish education colleagues to Willow Brook on Wednesday 29th March. The visit was arranged at the university’s request to enable them to experience best practice in the delivery of computing, technology and design at Key Stages 1 and 2.

The group of applied pedagogy professionals were extremely impressed and inspired by the effective embedding of creative and critical thinking skills they saw during their visit in teaching and learning practice. They observed a year 5 robotics class and commented on the depth of learning evidenced by the children, both through their application of skills and their ability to explain their learning to our visitors. The group commented on the children’s evident enjoyment of their learning, which resembled a creative play experience whilst also exercising their critical thinking skills.

The visitors praised the environment which has been created at Willow Brook to support teaching and learning for the whole community, ‘everywhere in the classrooms there was a focus on creativity and design…the school succeeds in making a difference.’

The group were also keen to learn more about the school’s involvement in the OPAL Project around sustainably improving the quality of play; Mr Tsui, our computing and STEM lead, was able to explain more about the purpose behind this and his role in the project’s working group.

As a result of their experiences at Willow Brook our colleagues from SDU are keen to establish further opportunities for the sharing and discussion of best practice, and we very much look forward to future computing and STEM teaching and learning collaboration with them.
