Celebrating the First Week of the Science Symposium: A Journey Into the Stars
As we wrap up the first week of the Science Symposium at Willow Brook, the excitement is palpable. The theme, IMAGINE, has come to life through interactive and tech-driven experiences that have inspired students, parents, and staff alike. From the moment the rocket “landed” at Willow Brook, weāve ventured into a world of curiosity, exploration, and discovery.
A Week of Exploration and Hands-On Science
The week has been full of hands-on learning, with students diving into topics like space exploration and alien biology. Kindergarten students created digital “Alien Plant Books,” imagining plants designed for survival on other planets. Year 1 students tested materials to create the best astronaut suit, while Year 2 became space food scientists, exploring how to keep astronauts healthy in space.
Year 3 students explored bending light through experiments with lasers, mirrors, and water, while Year 4 delved into sound waves, experimenting with sound to move objects and even create force fields. Year 5 students designed rockets to understand how forces affect materials, and Year 6 students explored space evolution, designing alien creatures adapted to different planetary environments.
Immersive Space Camp Experience
The Willow Brook Space Camp for Year 4 offered an unforgettable experience, with activities like an interplanetary obstacle course, lunar landing projects, and astronaut suit fittings.
Looking Ahead
As the first week comes to a close, the excitement continues. With a focus on critical thinking, creativity, and student-led exploration, the Science Symposium is inspiring our young scientists to share their discoveries and imagine a future full of endless possibilities. The adventure is just beginning, and we canāt wait to see where it takes us next!
