Exciting Launch of the Griffin Schools Trust Literacy Festival at Willow Brook Primary!

By 20 November 2024November 21st, 2024No Comments

Today marks a special milestone for Willow Brook Primary School as we join schools across the Griffin Schools Trust in launching our first-ever Literacy Festival! Over the next three days, our pupils will immerse themselves in a world of words and creativity through a variety of activities, workshops, and inspiring guest visits.

We’re thrilled to host an array of special guests, including renowned authors, dynamic podcast producers, and the talented team from Beat Goes On. Our Year 4 pupils are particularly excited about their percussion-based workshop, which creatively links rhythm, sound, and storytelling—proof that literacy extends beyond just reading and writing!

An “Un-Egg-Spected” Start to the Festival

This morning, just as staff were preparing for the busy day ahead, an astonishing discovery was made! Miss Pinder stumbled upon a magnificent, magical, and mythical giant egg resting on the school grounds. Quick-thinking staff carefully relocated the egg to the Hub, where it now rests snugly in a nest of feathers under the warm glow of heat lamps.

Our school has reached out to experts at London Zoo for advice on caring for the egg. In the meantime, the egg has already captured the imaginations of pupils and staff alike. It’s proving to be the perfect centrepiece for our Literacy Festival as children speculate about what might be inside. From mythical creatures to daring adventures, the egg has sparked a flurry of ideas and will serve as inspiration for creative writing activities throughout the week.

Creativity and Curiosity in Action

Today, pupils have begun visiting the egg, and their excitement is palpable! Under the guidance of Mr Peacey and Miss Pinder, pupils are exploring imaginative storytelling, with the egg as their muse. This unexpected discovery has turned into an incredible opportunity to weave wonder and creativity into our literacy activities.

We’re eagerly anticipating the brilliant stories, poems, and other pieces of creative writing that will emerge from this unique experience. The festival promises to be a celebration of the power of literacy to ignite curiosity and imagination in every child.

Stay tuned for updates as the festival unfolds—and of course, to find out what’s inside our mysterious egg! Willow Brook Primary is buzzing with excitement, and we can’t wait to share our pupils’ amazing creations with you.
