Celebrating the Launch of LGBT+ History Month!

By 3 February 2025No Comments

Today, we proudly launched LGBT+ History Month with a special assembly for all our pupils from Years 1-6. This important month is a time to celebrate diversity, kindness, and the incredible contributions of LGBT+ individuals throughout history.

To begin our journey, we shared the wonderful story My Magic Family by Lotte Jeffs and Sharon Davey. This heartwarming book explores different types of families and reminds us that love, care, and support come in many beautiful forms. The children enjoyed discussing what makes every family unique and how we can show kindness and respect to everyone, no matter what their family looks like.

We also introduced the children to Sally Ride, the first American woman to travel into space! As a brilliant astronaut and scientist, Sally inspired many people with her achievements. It wasnā€™t until after her passing that the world learned she was part of the LGBT+ community. Her legacy continues to encourage young peopleā€”especially girlsā€”to follow their dreams in science, technology, and space exploration, showing us all that being true to who you are is just as important as reaching for the stars.

Throughout February, weā€™ll continue learning about inspiring individuals like Sally Ride and celebrating the values of inclusivity, respect, and acceptance. We look forward to more exciting activities and discussions as we embrace the importance of diversity in our school and beyond!
